2009 JETAA National Conference – Thursday Night Reception

We’re unofficially kicking off the conference Thursday night on the rooftop of the Dana Hotel at the Vertigo Lounge. To get to the rooftop, you first need to go to the lobby, get carded, and then hop on a special elevator that takes you to Vertigo. The reception is from 6 – 9 pm.

Their website suggests that you “dress to impress,” so we’ll leave it up to you to interpret what that means.

2009 JETAA National Conference – Message from Hospitality Chair

Our chapter looks forward to hosting the National Conference, we’re only a week away! My name is Andy Smerczak-Zorza and I am chair of our hospitality organizing committee. On the Saturday (8/22) night of the conference, after the dinner hosted by CLAIR, we would like to invite you to a sketch comedy show America: All Better! performed at the famous Second City theater. This performance which satirizes America’s political atmosphere in the wake of President Barack Obama and introduces you to former Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich (maybe you’ve heard of him) will begin at 11pm and costs $25. We think you will enjoy this taste of Chicago-style humor.

We have reserved 50 tickets for this event, so if you are interested please email me by Monday 8/23, 12 noon central to secure your ticket. You can pay for your ticket with cash or check when you arrive at the Dana Hotel on Thursday.

COLLEGE FAIRS & INFO SESSIONS

The Japan Information Center needs JET Alumni to promote the JET Program at local colleges and job fairs. JET Alumni can attend college career fairs or do classroom visits or information sessions on campus. The JIC will provide a stipend and cover traveling expenses (if applicable). Also, if there are any specific colleges you would like to visit (such as your alma mater) please let us know. Thank you!

FYI – If any of the JETAA delegates whose hotel room is covered by the Consulate cancels their room after Aug 18, 2009 they are responsible for their cancellation fees as the Consulate does not cover them.

TRANSPORTATION FROM THE AIRPORTS
Taxi prices range from $26-$45 from Midway Airport and $32-$48 from O’Hare. Airport shuttle prices range from $15-$27 depending on the number of people traveling in your party. To make arrangements for Limousine and Sedan Services please contact concierge directly at the hotel. Public transportation is an option and the cost is less than $5, fees are subject to change without notice.

Trains from Midway Airport
From Midway, take the Orange Line towards the “Loop” and disembark at Roosevelt station. Transfer to the red line heading northbond towards “Howard” and disembark at Chicago AVe station. Then walk two blocks south to the hotel on the corner of State and Erie.

Trains from O’Hare Airport
Travelers taking the train from O’Hare can ride the Blue Line heading towards “Forest Park” and disembark at the Jackson Blvd station. Transfer to the red line heading northbond towards “Howard” and disembark at Chicago Ave station. Then walk two blocks south to the hotel on the corner of State and Erie.

This series will look at some of the factors that may have led us into the current economic climate as well as give us tips and pointers to help us set and achieve our financial goals. Each of our 3 panelists will speak for 20 minutes followed by a brief Q&A.
